A close, comfortable shave starts before the blade touches the skin. Proper preparation softens the beard, protects the skin, and helps the razor glide — reducing irritation, razor burn, and ingrown hairs.

Whether the skin is sensitive, the beard thick, or redness a familiar issue after shaving, these pre-shave steps — including our Solid Serum — make a measurable difference.

Why a Pre-Shave Routine Matters

Shaving without proper preparation can leave the skin dry, irritated, or reactive. A pre-shave routine hydrates the skin, softens the beard, and creates a protective layer that helps the razor glide — reducing friction and the risk of redness, razor burn, and ingrown hairs.

Step 1 — Cleanse the Face

Before shaving, cleanse the skin to remove dirt, oil, and residue. Our Daily Cleanser and Sculpting Shaving is suited to dry and sensitive skin — it cleanses without stripping the skin's natural oils, preventing clogged pores and helping the razor move smoothly.

Cleansing the face before shaving: essential first step of the Pisterzi pre-shave ritual.

Step 2 — Soften the Beard with Warmth

Heat plays a real role in preparation. A warm towel or a hot shower opens the pores and softens the beard, making it easier for the razor to cut cleanly — a step that helps prevent irritation before it starts.

Step 3 — Apply a Pre-Shave Treatment

Our Solid Serum, a coconut oil-based pre-shave treatment, is formulated to:

  • Soften the beard for a smoother shave
  • Support razor glide when mixed with shaving cream
  • Help prevent redness, irritation, and razor bumps
  • Hydrate the skin, with vitamins C and E and MC2®, an active based on black pepper fruit, ginseng, and açaí extract

To use it: warm a small amount between the fingertips, then massage into the skin and beard, allowing it to soften the hair and settle before applying shaving cream. Mixing a small amount into the cream itself adds further glide and comfort.

Step 4 — Lather with the Shaving Care Cream

A well-formulated shaving cream creates a barrier between skin and blade. Its creamy texture works either with a brush — building a rich lather that lifts the hair for a closer, more precise pass — or applied directly by hand.

Step 5 — Shave with the Right Technique

Always shave with the grain first to reduce irritation. Use light strokes, and rinse the razor frequently. For technique in more depth, see our guide here.

Step 6 — Post-Shave Care

Once the shave is complete, rinse with cold water to close the pores, then finish with an aftershave to soothe and hydrate the skin.
